What texture libraries can I use for my models for sale?

Discussion started by Karol-Pawlak

Hi, I'm not experienced in selling 3D models (I've launched 1 so far) and I only used my own procedural textures, because I didn't know what textures can I use legally. But for the long run I have to use some texture library. What free or paid libraries do you guys use for your 3d models for sale? Can you give me some names?

Search for CC0 licensed textures. There's plenty of them and they are very safe to use.

@LemonadeCG mentions a good method for tiled textured or delivering the entire texture to the customer. You can also use paid textures as long as they are unwrapped into the UV. This way the customer cannot re-use the textures for their own purpose since they are basically useless for any other purpose but can look very high quality for that object.

Thank you very much, this helps me tremendously. I looked at your models and saw that some of them include glass. I know it's not really related but I'll ask: how should I approach glass materials when selling models? Should I just leave it as white shiny material and leave the hassle of making it transparent to the buyer? Different render engines have different ways to make glass.

Always use the standard glass with refraction for the specific engine you are building for, So Vray has a glass preset, you can replicate that in Corona or use the Glass shader in Blender/Cycles. Substance also has a glass preset for PBR. Deliver your models as intended - make the customers job as easy as possible.
